Increases to B.C. Minimum Wage Effective May 1, 2012

In 2011, the Provincial Government announced increases to minimum wage rates in three stages. The first two increases were implemented in 2011; minimum wage increased to $8.75 per hour for most workers and the training wage was repealed. The minimum wage rate increased again on November 1st to $9.50 and this final increase in this three-part process is set to come into effect on May 1, 2012 when:

  • The minimum hourly wage for all workers other than live‑in home support workers, live-in camp leaders, resident caretakers, farm workers and liquor servers, increases to $10.25 an hour.
  • The minimum daily wage for a live‑in home support worker increases to $102.50 for each day or part day worked.
  • The minimum daily wage for a live‑in camp leader increases to $82 for each day or part day worked.
  • The minimum wage for a resident caretaker increases to $2,094.84 per month when caring for an apartment building containing 61 or more residential suites and to $615 per month plus $24.65 for each suite when caring for apartment buildings containing 9 to 60 residential suites.
  • The minimum wage for a liquor server increases to $9 per hour.
