RBS is looking for a Corporate Services Supervisor to join our Corporate Services department which oversees approximately 3,000 privately owned companies and a staff of 7 paralegals/clerks. This position is responsible for handling a variety of corporate transactions, overseeing paralegals and clerks, and the maintenance of the corporate database (ALF) and precedents.
Supervisor Requirements:
- strong knowledge of legal principles; attention to detail; keeps up to date with legislative changes; apprise paralegals and lawyers of changes
- works with lawyers, paralegals and clerks to assist with the screening, assignment and prioritization of tasks and projects
- assists in developing performance standards; evaluates performance; identifies training needs and provides direction and guidance in training and developing skills for paralegals and clerks as required
- resolves problems and creates solutions to improve and assure the high quality work product of the paralegals and clerks
- plans, organizes, directs, reviews, coordinates, and establishes controls for the department’s records management activities including maintaining/improving precedents (ALF)
- performs other related duties as required
Paralegal Requirements:
Create documents for all types of corporate services transactions including: BC, Federal and society incorporations, post-incorporation organizations, drafting special rights and restrictions, name changes, changes in authorized share structures, share allotments and transfers, lost share certificates, share transmissions, changing directors and officers, continuations, voluntary dissolutions. Attend to more complicated transactions including restorations, amalgamations, corrections of deficient corporate records as well as some corporate commercial transactions
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of ALF Corporate Software, MS Word & BC Online
- Knowledge of the BC Business Corporations Act, Canada Business Corporations Act, Society Act, Partnership Act and Canada Not-for-profit Act, and keep up to date on all legal procedures – Acts and Regulations
- Graduate of a recognized Paralegal Program (preferred) with at least 10 to 15 years’ experience
- Must have supervisory experience or the combined commensurate corporate services experience together with strong leadership skills
